San Francisco
Peter & Kristen's City Guide
All things food
A few of our favorite places to eat and drink.
Visit the Ferry Building:
A one stop shop for all things food. Stop by on Saturday for the farmers market.
Get secret breakfast ice cream (bourbon and corn flakes) at Humphry Slocombe
Stop by Lunette Cambodia for noodles
Great coffee:
The Mill - $12 avacado toast, that’s San Francisco bay-bee!
Great drinks:
True Laurel - Supposed to be the best. Go here and tell me how it is because I haven’t been yet.
Specs - Dive bar with knick knacks all over the wall, you know the vibe.
Our neighborhood faves:
Pizetta 211 - Cute tiny pizzas with new toppings each week. If it’s busy, check next door at Pearl 6101 and get the caesar salad and pearl martini.
Lung Fung Bakery - Best pork bun.
Tasting menus under $100:
Hiking
Get your steps in…literally.
Ocean views:
Batteries to Bluffs Trail - Hike along the coast not too far from the Golden Gate Bridge.
City hikes:
Greenwich steps to Coit tower - Start @ Sansome & Greenwich and take the stairs up and over Telegraph Hill, stopping by Coit tower and finishing in North Beach.
Crosstown trail - No matter where you are, you’re probably not too far from the crosstown trail that connects the four corners of SF and runs through hidden trails, public parks, shopping corridors, tiled stairways, and community gardens along the way.
Museums
Some spots worth visiting.
In Golden Gate Park:
Conservatory of Flowers - Browse exotic plants and orchids for around $15.
DeYoung Museum - You can either check out the art or skip admission and go up to the look-out tower to get a great view of SF and visit the James Turrell skyspace in the sculpture garden.
Honorable mention :
Cable Car Museum - A quick stop in Nob Hill, learn about cable cars and get a peek at the actual cables running underneath the streets. Right around the corner from Coffee Movement.
Shopping
Some places to walk around and shop.
Hayes Valley - Hip neighborhood in the Western Addition. The main commercial stretch, Hayes Street has many shops and places to eat.
Japan town - Large indoor/outdoor complexes house an assortment of specialty grocery stores, kitschy gift shops, karaoke bars and Asian-style day spas.
Grant St. in North Beach - If youre in the area, theres some cute shops, a record store, and an italian bookstore tucked away in a North Beach alley.
